Enabling Products & Services

These are products that we consider to be important for legacy modernization and/or legacy replacement projects.

Test Harness 2000

Automated testing product for legacy modernization projects, with the design and lead implementation provided by Don Estes & Associates.  Also used by Forecross Corporation under the TestSentinel brand.

Raincode

Fully automated service for unattended COBOL restructuring ("de-spaghettizing") which we consider a key modernization capability.  The DVV Insurance project description gives a brief description of its capability.  The service is inexpensive, and is priced in proportion to the code quality improvement, so even pretty good quality code can benefit.

CICS compatible processing in open systems environments.

There are 6 products of which we are aware:

Notes:

(1) In 2007 Clerity (www.clerity.com) acquired the legacy modernization unit of Sun Microsystems, including the CICS compatible Mainframe Transaction Processing software branded as Unikix.  This is the oldest CICS emulator on open systems, and claims 1200 licenses in production worldwide, some as much as 15 years old.  Unikix is a fully featured offering for the platforms it supports.

(2) Fujitsu also offers a CICS to .NET capability that is very interesting if you are committed to a Windows platform.

(3) In North America, contact www.leadpointinc.com.

(4) In our opinion, commitment of IBM to this product is in doubt, and support in the US is problematic.  However, the product has a large installed base, so you should form your own opinion after discussions with IBM.

(5) Also supports IMS/TM, IMS/DB and JCL.
